CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University head men’s basketball coach Cliff Ellis was named the Big South Coach of the Year by Sporting News, the publication announced today.
Ellis has guided the Chanticleers to a 28-6 season, a Big South regular-season championship and a berth in the Postseason NIT in a week. He earned Big South Coach of the Year and now has won that honor in four different conferences (ACC, SEC and Sun Belt). He helped Coastal win a regular-season championship for the first time since 1991 and a place in the Big South Tournament championship game for the first time since 2006.
Sporting News also picked Art Parakhouski of Radford as its Player of the Year and VMI’s Stan Okoye as its Freshman of the Year.
Coastal Carolina will find out its destination for the Postseason NIT Sunday, March 14 at 9 p.m.
