Junior Warren Gillis

March 3, 2014

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina University men’s basketball student-athletes Warren Gillis, Elijah Wilson and Michel Enanga were all awarded honors by the Big South Conference, the league announced on Monday. Gillis was tabbed All-Big South Conference Second Team, Wilson was named Honorable Mention All-Big South as well as All-Freshman Team while Enanga was named to the All-Academic Team.

Gillis, a junior, earned his first all-conference selection. During the regular season, he ranked 11th in the conference in scoring (14.5 ppg.), third in free throw percentage (.854), fourth in steals (1.7 spg.) and 10th in assists (3.0 apg.). He is currently riding a 17-game double-digit scoring streak dating back to Jan. 3.  His game-high 21 points against Charleston Southern University this past Saturday helped clinch the Chanticleers’ first Big South Conference South Division Title.

Wilson, a freshman, had a phenomenal rookie campaign. He led the Chants in scoring while breaking Coastal Carolina Hall of Fame member Jack Leasure’s freshman scoring record by more than 70 points. He also broke the school's freshman field goals made record which stood for 29 years with 185 made baskets. The previous record was held by William Calvin who made 156 shots during the 1984-85 season. Wilson finished the regular season ranked among the top-10 freshmen scorers in the country and ninth overall in the Big South (16.4 ppg.)

Enanga, a sophomore, carries a 3.57 GPA in computer science. He was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 4 Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America earlier this season becoming just the fourth Coastal Carolina men’s basketball player in program history to achieve the feat. He finished the regular season ranked 13th in the conference in rebounding (5.6 rpg.) and fifth on the CCU squad in scoring (5.7 ppg.).

Gillis, Wilson, Enanga and the rest of the Chanticleers will return to action this Friday, March 7 at 6 pm when Coastal opens up play in the Big South Championships against the winner of the Campbell/Charleston Southern match-up. All games will be played on the campus of Coastal Carolina University inside The HTC Center. Tickets can be purchased here.
