Feb. 14, 2018

Conway - Coastal Carolina's men's basketball team will end its regular season home games with a pair of games this week.

The first game will see CCU (11-5, 5-8 Sun Belt) host Troy University (12-13, 6-6 Sun Belt) in a Feb. 15 Thursday evening game slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.

It will be the second time the teams have met this season as CCU came back from a 14-point halftime deficit to defeat the Trojans 74-73.

CCU will be looking to even the all-time series as Troy has won two of the three contests. This will be the first time the teams will meet in Conway at the HTC Center.

Troy has two of the top players in the conference in Wesley Person and Jordon Varnado. Person is the Sun Belt's top three point shooter leading the league in three pointers made (79) and his 3.2 threes made per game also is the league-leader.

Person averages 18.8 points per game which is fifth in the conference.

Varnado is not that far behind Person, as he averages 17.2 points per game and 6.7 rebounds.

CCU will counter with Zac Cuthbertson and his 15.1 points per game average. The junior is 11th in the conference in scoring and his 6.7 rebounding average is10th.

While Jaylen Shaw has not been scoring as much in the past few games, he has been involved in the Chants offense. He is coming off an eight-assist game, and in fact has had eight assists in five of the past eight games and has moved into third in the conference in assists averaging 5.6 per game.

Artur Labinowicz is averaging 11 points per game and Demario Beck, maybe the best sixth-man in the league, comes off the bench averaging 10.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.

The final game of the home portion of the regular season will be Saturday Feb. 17 at 3:30 p.m., as South Alabama comes to town. In the first outing this season USA (13-12, 6-6 Sun Belt) was able to defeat CCU 60-57 in a hotly contested game in Mobile, Ala., back on Jan.18. The game will be Senior Night as three CCU student-athletes will be honored.
