Winthrop is under the direction of first-year head coach Pat Kelsey. The Eagles have wins over Ohio University and Auburn University on the road and posted just a 10-point loss at Ohio State. Winthrop's two conference wins have come at home against Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb. The Eagles are 6-3 at home this season and only VCU, N.C. Central and High Point have taken them down in Rock Hill. Winthrop has won just two of their last eight contests. The Eagles are led by sophomore guard Derrick Henry who is averaging 11.5 points per game while senior guard Gideon Gamble has been coming off the bench to score 10.1 points per game which ranks second on the team. Sophomore forward Larry Brown leads the team in rebounding with 6.1 boards per contest.

Coastal Carolina and Winthrop have met 73 times on the basketball court. Coastal holds the series lead at 38-35. The two teams have split the series 5-5 over the last 10 games but CCU is just 2-8 in the last 10 trips to Rock Hill. CCU's last win over the Eagles came Feb. 12, 2011, in Rock Hill, 61-56. The Eagles defeated the Chants 67-57 in Rock Hill last season in their most recent meeting.

Coastal Carolina is 5-5 in games played on Jan. 30 including 2-3 on the road. The Chants last meeting on Jan. 30 was in 2010 at Winthrop and the Chants fell 67-64. Coastal has not won on Jan. 30 since 2000. CCU and Winthrop have met twice on Jan. 30. The Eagles won the most recent meeting in 2010 while the Chants won at home in 1989, 70-57.

Coastal Carolina senior guard Kierre Greenwood became the 22nd player in Big South history with 400 career helpers on Dec. 13 as he dished out eight assists against Toccoa Falls to give himself 403 for his career. He became the third Chanticleer to make the conference's all-time list, joining Robert Dowdell (561 from 1987-91) and Alvin Green (411 from 2000-05). He now has 444 career assists. Greenwood is now 16th all-time in the Big South in assists and needs just four more to move past Liberty's Matt Hildebrand (447 from 1991-94) for 15th.

Senior guard Anthony Raffa eclipsed the 1,000-point mark at Coastal with a 26-point performance against Johnson & Wales. He needed just 14 points heading into the game and it took him just 9:40 to reach the 1,000-point milestone. He is now the 17th CCU player to reach the mark. Raffa had already eclipsed 1,000 points for his college career heading into the 2012-13 season with his 271 points at Albany combined with his total at Coastal. He now has 1,534 points in his college career and 1,263 in a Coastal uniform.

Kierre Greenwood eclipsed the 1,000-point scoring mark at Coastal with an 11-point performance at home against Presbyterian. He needed just one point going into the game and sunk a free throw with 9:12 left in the first half to reach the milestone. He became the 18th CCU player to score 1,000 points in a career and now has 1,061 career points.

Coastal ranks second in the Big South and 20th in the NCAA in steals per game with 9.3. Four players are ranked in the top-15 in steals per game in the Big South including third-ranked Anthony Raffa, fifth-ranked Kierre Greenwood, eighth-ranked Warren Gillis and 15th-ranked Michel Enanga.

For just the fourth time in program history, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers have two 1,000-point scorers on the same team. The first occurrence was during the 1987-88 season when William Calvin and Derek Wilson played the final four games of the season when both had 1,000 or more career points. During the 1990-91 season the Chants played seven games with three 1,000-point scorers including Brian Penny, Robert Dowdell and DuWayne Cheatam. Near the end of the 2006-07 season Jack Leasure and Moses Sonko played 11 games together after both hitting the 1,000-point milestone. Seniors Kierre Greenwood and Anthony Raffa have played five games together as 1,000-point scorers and have the potential to be the longest running duo of 1,000-point scorers in CCU history. Robert Dowdell and Brian Penny currently hold the record at 14 games.

Freshman forward Uros Ljeskovic had an eventful fall semester. While working his way into the starting line-up he dominated off the court getting a perfect 4.0 in the classroom. For his hard work he was recognized as a member of the President's List. He was one of 20 CCU student-athletes to earn a perfect 4.0 in the fall. Fellow freshmen Tristian Curtis, Badou Diagne, Michel Enanga and Ron Trapps were all named to the Dean's List for finishing the semester with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
