Conway - After picking up a much-needed win at Troy, the Coastal Carolina men’s basketball team will be back in action on its home court, the HTC Center, for the team’s next two games.

The two-game home stand will begin Thursday, Jan. 25 when Arkansas State comes to Conway for a 7:30 p.m. game. CCU will then host Little Rock Saturday, Jan. 27 at 3:30 p.m.

In its last outing, The Chanticleers came from 14 points behind at halftime to pull out a 74-73 win at Troy. CCU trailed 59-46 with just over 13 minutes left before going on a 14-0 run over the next 3:15 seconds to take a 60-59 lead. From there the game was back and forth before an Amidou Bamba put-back basket gave CCU a 74-72 lead which they were able to hang on for the one-point victory.

CCU continues to have four players average in double figures. Zac Cuthbertson leads the way at 16 points per game. He led the Chants second half comeback at Troy with 15 second-half points. He finished the game with 21.

Jaylen Shaw averages 15.2 points per game, but also leads the team in assists (113) and steals (38). Demario Beck continues to be one of the most consistent players on the team. He averages 11 points and a team-best 7.3 rebounds per game. His .572 shooting percentage from the field is second on the team and he is shooting 33 percent from beyond the three-point line.

Just three games ago Artur Labinowicz had a career and CCU season-high in points with a 32-point output against Georgia State. Labinowicz continues to play well and averages 10.4 points per game.

CCU will enter the game carrying an 8-13 overall record and stands 2-6 in conference play. Arkansas State enters the game 7-13 overall and 2-5 in the Sun Belt. The Redwolves defeated Little Rock 70-62 in its last outing.

Arkansas State is led in scoring by Deven Simms (16.5 ppg) and Ty Cockfield (13.2 ppg).

This will only be the fourth time the two teams have met in competition with the Redwolves owning a 2-1 lead in the series. Arkansas State won the first meeting between the two teams back in 1987, 65-52. The teams met on a neutral court in Little Rock, where they were playing in the Arkansas-Little Rock Tournament.

They did not meet again until last season, as both teams were members of the Sun Belt Conference. CCU won the first meeting in Conway 80-65 and the Redwolves returned the favor by defeating CCU 67-57 on their home court.

Little Rock will play at Appalachian State before making its way over to Conway for Saturday’s showdown. The Trojans enter the week of action 5-12 overall and 2-5 in conference action.

Andre Jones’ 12.1 points per game leads the team and Oliver Black is one of the top rebounders in the league averaging 7.4 per outing.
