CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coastal Carolina junior guard Desmond Holloway has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men’s Basketball Player of the Week the conference office announced Monday.
Holloway averaged 22.5 points, shot 56.0 percent from the field (14-of-25) and 87.5 percent from the free throw line (14-of-16) in leading the Chanticleers to two Big South road wins.
He opened the week with a team-high 18 points in addition to four rebounds and two steals Thursday at UNC Asheville. Holloway scored seven points in the final 3:55 of the first half to help Coastal take a nine-point lead at the break.
Coastal Carolina went on to defeat UNC Asheville 80-59 and set a school record for the most consecutive Big South Conference wins with 12.
On Saturday at Gardner-Webb, Holloway scored a career-high 27 points in the Chants’ three-point win, including a personal-best three 3-point field goals. He scored seven points in the final 1:56, which included the game-winning jumper with 45 seconds remaining.
It’s the second time this season that Holloway has been selected as the Big South Conference Player of the Week. The Indianapolis, Ind., native first earned the distinction Nov. 22 following a four-game stretch at the Charleston Classic where he averaged 20.0 point and 6.0 rebounds per game.
Holloway will look to lead Coastal Carolina to its 17th straight victory when the Chants resume play Thursday night at 7 p.m. on the road against High Point.
