Men's Basketball's Harris Named Big South Player of the Week
CHARLOTTE, N.C. Coastal Carolina sophomore forward Joseph Harris (Lejeune, N.C./Lejeune) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Mens Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 15-21, it was announced today by the League office. This is the first time in his career that he has earned the league's weekly award.
Harris had the best week of his young career in leading the Chanticleers to a pair of wins at VMI and at home over Liberty. At VMI, he posted a career-high 31 points and made it a double-double with 11 rebounds along with two blocks and one steal. He tallied 21 in the first half to give CCU an 11-point halftime lead, but his crunch-time occurred with 7.6 seconds left when he grabbed a key offensive rebound with Coastal up one and was fouled and hit the first free throw to seal the victory. Harris followed that up with his second double-double of the week with a team-high 18 points and 10 rebounds, along with career-bests of three blocks and five steals in the win over Liberty. He scored 12 of his points in the second half, including four in the closing seconds to squelch a late LU rally. On the week, Harris averaged 24.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and was 20-of-24 from the field (83.3 percent), plus four assists, five blocks and six steals.
Coastal is back on the court tonight, hosting High Point at Kimbel Arena at 7:30 p.m.
