CONWAY, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina's Brandon Newby (Lanham, Md.-Gonzaga College) was named the Big South Conference/Choice Hotels Men's BasketballCo-Player of the Week, Jan. 12. Newby was selected for the weekly honor, along with Winthrop's Tyrone Walker, and is the second consecutive Chanticleer to receive the honor, as senior guard E.J. Gallup earned the award last week.
The senior guard averaged 21.5 points on 51.9 percent shooting from the field, which included a 70 percent clip from the three-point line against two of the top three teams in the League this past week in High Point and Birmingham-Southern. In the win over Birmingham-Southern, Newby had a game-high 23 points along with two rebounds and four assists, while hitting 8-of-14 from the field and 5-of-7 from the three-point arc.
Coastal (7-7, 2-1 Big South) is back in action on Tues., Jan. 13, as the Chanticleers travel to in-state-rival Charleston Southern (3-11, 0-3 Big South) for a 7 p.m., tipoff.
