CONWAY, S.C. - Chad Gray turned in his second double-double of the season and Coastal Carolina won its 10th straight game with a 78-60 victory over High Point Sunday afternoon from Kimbel Arena.
Gray finished with 19 points and a career-high 12 rebounds and was one of four Chanticleers in double figures. Gray also tied his career-high with five blocked shots.
Desmond Holloway scored a game-high 21 points to post his fifth game this season with at least 20 points. Holloway also pulled down six rebounds and was 7-for-9 from the free throw line.
Mike Holmes added 16 points and nine rebounds, while Kierre Greenwood finished with 13 points and a game-high five assists.
Du'Vaughn Maxwell paced High Point with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Shay Shine added 12 points and Tehran Cox 10.
Coastal Carolina (12-2, 3-0) built an early 13-5 lead on a basket from Holloway at the 13:23 mark of the first half, but High Point used a 9-2 run thereafter to pull within two points at 17-15 midway through the half.
Coastal and High Point went back-and-forth over the next few possessions before the Panthers tied the game at 27-27 on a layup from Shine with just over four minutes to play.
The Chanticleers scored the final eight points of the half to take a 35-27 lead into intermission. Gray energized the crowd on the final play of the half on a thunderous dunk on the baseline as time expired.
High Point (5-7, 2-2) climbed to within six points just over six minutes into the second half, but three straight points from Greenwood lifted the Coastal lead back to nine points.
Maxwell pulled the Panthers to within 10 points at the 6:22 mark on a jumper in the paint, but the Chanticleers outscored High Point 12-4 the rest of the way to improve to 8-0 at home this season.
Coastal returns to action Thursday at 7 p.m. when the Chanticleers travel to Lexington, Va., to take on VMI.
