CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina baseball team, one of 11 programs to play in an NCAA Regional each year since 2007, is ranked 40th by Collegiate Baseball in its annual preseason poll, presented by Big League Chew bubble gum.
The other 10 programs joining CCU as those that have played in each of the last seven NCAA Regionals are #5 Florida State, #13 Miami (Fla.), #11 North Carolina, #12 Virginia, Arkansas, #14 South Carolina, #9 Vanderbilt, #17 Rice, #25 Texas A&M and 2014 preseason #1 Cal State Fullerton.
In addition to North Carolina and South Carolina, Coastal Carolina opponents making the Collegiate Baseball top 40 include #10 North Carolina State, #21 Clemson, #34 Wichita State and #35 Liberty. The Chants will travel to North Carolina April 9 and South Carolina on March 26. Coastal, who took two-of-three at Georgia Tech last season, will travel to North Carolina State for a three-game set May 2-4. After taking a year off in the long-running series 2013, Coastal and Clemson will resume their rivalry on April 15. Wichita State will be a part of this year's Caravelle Resort's Baseball at the Beach Feb. 20-24. Coastal will travel to Liberty May 9-11 for its second-to-last weekend series of the season.
Coastal Carolina will open the 2014 season by hosting Pittsburgh, one of the team receiving votes in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll.
