Baseball's Woodward Reads to Kids at Ocean Bays Middle School
Coastal Carolina University baseball sophomore Scott Woodward (Markle, Ind./Norwell) recently read to students at Ocean Bays Middle School in Myrtle Beach. What was first a class project has turned to a connection between Woodward and the students that the sophomore has visited the classroom multiple times this semester.
Woodward read to students who are deaf or hard of hearing at Ocean Bays. The students are from preschool and kindergarten to fifth grade. Last Monday was Woodward’s second visit to the school with another visit to come before the semester ends. Members of the class were given Coastal Carolina baseball T-shirts and baseballs from their hero as well.
Coastal Carolina’s student-athletes have given back to the community in many ways. This includes being mentors at the Grand Strand Miracle League and the C.R.O.W. program.
