CONWAY - Coastal Carolina Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek and South Carolina Director of Athletics Ray Tanner announced today that the two schools have agreed to face each other in football during the 2013 season and in baseball during the 2014 and '15 seasons. Coastal Carolina also announced its complete 2013 non-conference football schedule Wednesday.

The Coastal Carolina-South Carolina football game will be played on Nov. 23, 2013, in USC's Williams-Brice Stadium. In baseball, Coastal Carolina and South Carolina will play at USC's Carolina Stadium in 2014 and move the series to Conway in 2015 at Coastal Carolina's new state-of-the-art facility.

"Since we hosted the 2010 NCAA Super Regional and knowing the excitement those games generated between the two fan bases, I have been in talks with South Carolina to see Coastal play the Gamecocks in football, baseball and basketball," Yurachek said. "We originally had agreed to play South Carolina in football during the 2016 season but a date opened up next year and we were able to make it work.

"The opportunity to compete against USC in both football and baseball during the regular season is significant for our student-athletes, coaches and various constituenties across the state. We currently compete against USC in several sports and adding football and baseball to this mix is special. I would like to thank former USC Director of Athletics Eric Hyman for beginning this process and new Director of Athletics Ray Tanner, as well as Senior Associate Director of Athletics Charles Waddell, for moving these agreements forward."

For Coastal, the football game will be the Chanticleers' regular season finale while the Gamecocks will now close the 2013 regular season with home games versus Mississippi State, Florida, Coastal Carolina and Clemson.

"Since moving to a 12-game football schedule, we have annually played one of our in-state FCS schools," Tanner said. "We are happy to add Coastal Carolina to that rotation with a game at Williams-Brice Stadium. It will mark the first meeting ever on the gridiron between the Gamecocks and Chanticleers, and we look forward to seeing a great turnout from both teams' fans from the beach area as they make their way to Columbia for that contest."

In addition to being the first meeting between the two schools in football, Coastal will be playing its second versus a Southeastern Conference member and will be the Chants' seventh meeting versus an FBS program. (Coastal has also played at Penn State in 2008, at Kent State in 2009, at Clemson in 2009, at West Virginia in 2010, at Georgia in 2011 and at Toledo in 2012.)

Coastal Carolina's complete non-conference football schedule for 2013 is: Aug. 31 at South Carolina State, Sept. 7 at home versus Furman, Sept. 14 at Eastern Kentucky, Sept. 21 at home versus Hampton, Sept. 28 at Elon, Nov. 2 at home versus Charlotte and Nov. 23 at South Carolina.

Coastal Carolina and South Carolina have met on the baseball diamond on 17 previous occasions - but only four times since 1995 - with the Gamecocks owning a 14-3 advantage, including wins in each of the last four meetings. The last three meetings between the schools have all occurred at the home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans - once in 2002 for Coastal's annual Baseball at the Beach and a two-game series when No. 4 national seed Coastal Carolina hosted the 2010 NCAA Super Regional before a record crowd of 6,599.

Coastal Carolina made its first trip to Columbia since Feb. 6, 2001, this past June when the Chanticleers played in the 2012 NCAA Columbia Regional at Carolina Stadium. Coastal did not face South Carolina and went 1-2 in the Regional, defeating Manhattan and dropping a pair of games to Clemson.
