Baseball's Woodward Named First Team Freshman All-American by Baseball America

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University baseball player Scott Woodward (Markle, Ind./Norwell) was named to the Freshman All-American First Team by Baseball America today (June 30). Woodward becomes the first Chanticleer and the fourth Big South player to be named a Freshman All-American by the publication.   Woodward hit .364 with 15 doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 45 RBI in 64 starts for the Chants. Woodward had a .540 on-base percentage, which is a single-season school record. He also was been hit by a pitch 30 times, which is a school and Big South record. He was named to the All-Conway Regional team, scoring 10 runs and hitting .600 in the three games. Woodward was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI in the championship game against East Carolina June 1. He drove in five runs in a win over UNC Asheville April 19 and had five hits in a win over Charleston Southern April 12. He led the Big South with 82 runs scored and 42 stolen bases and walked 58 times. Woodward was named to the All-Ping! Baseball Third Team and the Freshman All-Ping! Baseball First Team. He also was a Second Team Freshman All-American by the NCBWA, a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and a Second Team All-Region selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association.   Coastal ended the season tying a school record with 50 wins and advanced to its first-ever Super Regional. The Chants won the Big South regular-season and tournament titles, had 11 players on the All-Big South teams and went 3-0 at the NCAA Conway Regional.   Baseball America Freshman All-American First Team C – Micah Gibbs, LSU 1B – Hunter Morris, Auburn 2B – Josh Adams, Florida 3B – Scott Woodward, Coastal Carolina SS – Rick Hague, Rice OF – Kentrail Davis, Tennessee OF – Ryan Lockwood, South Florida OF – Brian Fletcher, Auburn DH – Kyle Parker, Clemson UT – Brett Eibner, Arkansas SP – Chris Hernandez, Miami SP – Seth Maness SP – Shane Davis, Canisius SP – Chance Ruffin, Texas RP – Chase Dempsay, Houston
