Cooke Named All-American; Cunningham All-Region
CONWAY - Coastal Carolina centerfielder Billy Cooke was named third team Perfect Game/Rawlings All-American team while Alex Cunningham was voted to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Atlantic Region second team.
Cooke becomes Coastal's 31st baseball All-American while Cunningham is the 24th ABCA All-Region selection since 2004.
Cooke was the 2017 Sun Belt Player of the Year and was selected in the eighth round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft by the Seattle Mariners. The Maitland, Fla., product batted .353 with 52 runs scored in 56 games played while adding 15 doubles, 10 home runs, 38 RBI, 38 walks and 21 stolen bases. He additionally led the team with a .587 slugging percentage and a .479 on base percentage.
Cunningham, who earned second team All-American honors by Collegiate Baseball last week, was picked in the ninth round of the MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres. The Byrnes product and Duncan native was 7-2 with a 2.63 ERA and had a Sun Belt-best 117 strikeouts, which ranks among the NCAA top 20. Also, opponents managed just a .195 batting average off Cunningham.
