Baseball Hosts Final Home Series; FRIDAY START IS 2 PM
CONWAY - The 19th-ranked Coastal Carolina baseball program, fresh off a win over #3 North Carolina Wednesday, will play its final three regular season home games this weekend at Springs Brooks Stadium. The weekend series will play a key role in determining the overall Sun Belt top seed as Coastal Carolina leads the East Division while Little Rock leads the West Division.
As a reminder, game time for Friday's series opener is set for 2 pm. Saturday's game will also start at 2 pm. Prior to first pitch Saturday, seven Chanticleer seniors (Matt Beaird, Zack Hopeck, Seth Lancaster, Lee Sponseller, Kevin Woodall Jr., Mickey Beach and Kyle McCann) will be honored so fans are encouraged to arrive early to send off this outstanding group. The series finale on Sunday will start at Noon.
Coastal will close the regular season the following weekend at Appalachian State. With it being the final weekend, all Sun Belt series will be played Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Game times in Boone, N.C., are set for 6 pm Thursday, 6 pm Friday (WHICH IS A CHANGE FROM ORIGINAL SCHEDULE) and 1 pm Saturday.
The 2018 Sun Belt Championship will be held May 22-27 in Lafayette, La., at Russo Field, home of the Ragin' Cajuns. The first day (May 22) of the tournament will be a single-elimination round with the #7 seed playing the #10 seed and the #8 seed playing the #9 seed. The double elimination portion begins May. 23. As it stands now, Coastal would be the top seed and would play the lowest seed left after the play-in game.
