CONWAY - Coastal Carolina senior Justin Creel, who owns a perfect 4.0 grade point average, has been named Capital One Academic All-District 4 as named by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Creel is majoring in biology and has been accepted to LSU's medical school. He becomes the eighth Chanticleer to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, joining Jeff Baker (2003), Chris Todd (2005), Matt Rademacher (2007), Tommy Baldridge (2007-08), Austin Fleet (2009-10), Chance Gilmore (2009-10) and Tucker Frawley (2001-112). Creel will now look to join Fleet (2010) and Frawley (2012) as an All-America.
Earlier this week, Creel was named Coastal Carolina's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and tabbed a National Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association Athlete of the Year.
Creel, Coastal's starting second baseman on the 2012 Big South Championship team, is splitting time this season between second and first. (Coastal is 7-1 when Creel starts at first base.) While batting just .203 this season, Creeel has an impressive .330 on-base percentage thanks to 12 walks. Creel is one of the more productive Chants in advancing base runners with a 51.9 success rate.
