CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina baseball team was the consensus pick by the Big South's head coaches to repeat as South Division Champion, the conference announced today.

Coastal Carolina received the maximum 72 points to win the South Division, followed by Gardner-Webb (56), Charleston Southern (45), Winthrop (34), Presbyterian (26 and UNC Asheville (19). Liberty, the 2013 Big South Tournament Champion, was picked to win the North Division with 62 points, getting six of the 13 first place votes. Campbell, which received the other six first-place votes to win the North Division, earned 59 points, followed by Radford (51), High Point (38), Longwood (28) and VMI (14).

Charleston Southern's Bobby Ison was voted the league's preseason Player of the Year while Campbell's Ryan Thompson was voted the preseason Pitcher of the Year. CCU junior and 2013 first team All-Big South pick Ben Smith was second in the voting for preseason Pitcher of the Year.

Coastal Carolina has won 28 conference championships in its history - 15 regular season and 13 tournament - and has appeared in an NCAA regional in 11 of the last 12 years, including seven straight. The Chanticleers return five position starters (1B Connor Owings, 2B Jake Kane, SS Nick Oberg, 3B Zach Remillard and RF Colin Hering) as well as seven pitchers, including Smith, 2013 Big South Freshman of the Year Seth Lamando, Tyler Poole (6-2), Tyler Herb (6-1), Mike Morrison, Austin Kerr and Brock Hunter.

The Chanticleers open the 2014 season by hosting Pittsburgh for a three-game series Feb. 14-16. The first game (Friday) will be played in Florence at Francis Marion's Sparrow Stadium at 1 pm. Games Saturday and Sunday will be played at Myrtle Beach's TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark at 4 pm and Noon, respectively.

To order your 2014 Chanticleer Baseball season tickets, visit GoCCUSports.com or contact the Athletics Ticket Office at 843-347-8499.

An alternative to season tickets is a $50 Voucher Book for general admission seating and may be used in any combination. For example, you can use the book to get 12 fans into a single game, spread it out getting one admission for 12 separate games or any other combination in between. This is the flexible package that provides a significant price break over purchasing individually and good for the games of your choice. (NOTE - The games Feb. 20-24 as part of the Caravelle Resort's Baseball at the Beach are not part of CCU's season ticket plan and the Voucher Books are not good for those games.)
