ROCK HILL - Winthrop scored three in the eighth inning to force extra innings then scored one in the 13th to defeat #24 Coastal Carolina, 6-5, Saturday afternoon at the Winthrop Ballpark.

In the 13th, Cam Walters drew a leadoff walk. After a sacrifice bunt, Coastal intentionally walked Chas Crane and Eddie Rohan was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Pinch hitter Justin Hopper hit a ground ball to second and Walters was called safe at the plate to end the game.

Winthrop scratched the scoreboard first, putting two on the board in the fourth. Matt Lobacz and Adam Gliebe started the home half with back-to-back singles. A sacrifice bunt moved the two up 90 feet. TJ Olesczuk brought home Lobacz with an RBI ground out and Patrick Gamblin plated Gliebe with a double down the left field line.

The Chants answered in the top of the fifth. Jacob May walked and Tucker Frawley singled. Tripp Martin followed with a sacrifice bunt, but reached base to load the bases. Witten nearly did some major damage, but a great diving catch in deep right-center field by Olescuk limited the damage to one RBI on the sacrifice fly. Another deep fly ball and tough cacth by left fielder Gamblin off Hayes Orton's bat kept runners on first and second. However, Tommy La Stella extended his hit streak to 10 games with an RBI single to right, bringing home Frawley and tying the game.

Coastal took a 4-2 lead in the top of the seventh. Frawley hit a leadoff double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Witten walked to put runners on first and third. Orton followed with a safety squeeze sacrifice bunt, driving in Frawley and moving Witten to second. La Stella then looped a single to center to score Witten.

The Chants added to their lead in the top of the eighth, going up 5-2. Taylor Motter singled with two outs, stole second and scored on May's second triple of the year.

Gliebe followed with a single, which would have loaded the bases, but an error allowed Rohan to score. Olesczuk grounded out out to first, bring home Lobacz. Gamblin then tied the game with an infield single that scored Gliebe.
