RALEIGH, N.C. - Trea Turner scored five times and Andrew Knizner drove in five to lead North Carolina State (25-19) to an 11-1 victory versus Coastal Carolina (22-24) Friday night at Doak Field. The two teams will return to action Saturday at 6:30 pm and the game will be available on ESPN3.

NC State All-American pitcher Carlos Rodon (4-7) and Coastal's Tyler Herb (6-4) had a good battle early before the Wolfpack exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to secure the win. Rodon, likely one of the top picks in this June's Major League Baseball Draft, gave up two hits in the first inning before settling down to earn the win. He allowed five hits and two walks in his 6.2 innings with eight strikeouts.

The Wolfpack took advantage of a Chanticleer miscue to take a 1-0 lead in the first. Turner reached on an error, stole second and took third on a ground ball. Chance Shepard plated Turner with a ground out to first base.

In the third inning, NC State added a run. With one out, Turner snuck a ground ball through the infield and took second on a ground out. Knizner followed with a seeing-eye single up the middle to drive in Turner.

The Wolfpack blew the game open in the fifth, sending 10 men to the plate and scoring six runs. Garrett Suggs and Turner had back-to-back hits to start the home half and Logan Ratledge loaded the bases when he was hit by a pitch. Knizner's chopper to the right side got through to score Suggs and Turner. Shepard then delivered an RBI single and, after a wild pitch put runners on second and third, Brett Austin reached on a fielder's choice to score Knizner. After a walk loaded the bases once again, Bubby Riley hit an infield single to bring home Shepard and keep the bases loaded. Herb induced a double play, but Austin was able to score on the play. Herb then closed the frame with a strikeout.

NC State scored twice in the sixth. Turner drew a leadoff walk and scored on a Ratledge double. Ratledge took third on a fly out and scored on a passed ball for a 10-0 lead.

Connor Owings spoiled the shutout bid by starting the eighth inning with a solo home run, his fourth round-tripper of the season.

The Wolfpack got that run back in the home half of the eighth. Turner walked and moved to third on a double by Ratledge. Knizner followed with a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Turner and providing the 11-1 final.

Herb allowed eight hits and eight runs (seven earned) with two walks and three strikeouts in five innings. Tyler Chadwick had two of Coastal's six hits while Kyle Jackson reached base twice on a pair of walks.
