Coastal Carolina Falls at College of Charleston, 14-2

MT. PLEASANT - The College of Charleston (22-18) scored five runs in the second and five in the seventh to pull away for a 14-2 victory over Coastal Carolina (25-16) Tuesday night at Patriot Point.
The Cougars broke the game open with five runs in the second, hitting three doubles in the inning. With one out, Carl Wise walked and moved to third on Cody Martin's double. Ryan Welke followed with an RBI single and Morgan Phillips delivered an RBI double. Blake Butler, who was 4-for-5 with four RBI, hit the Cougars' third double of the inning, driving in two. Matt Heidt capped the scoring with a two-out, RBI single
Charelston added a run in the fourth and two in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead. In the fourth, Devon Reed reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Heidt's RBI double. In the fourth, After singles by Welke and Phillips, Butler hit an two-run single for an 8-0 lead.
Coastal stopped the Cougars' run in the sixth. With two outs, Jacob May singled. He stole second and scored on Will Remillard's single. Colin Hering followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Justin Creel plated Remillard with a single, once again putting runners on the corners.
The Cougars responded with a run in the home half of the sixth. Costal just missed turning an inning-ending double play and CofC made them pay as Martin singled to center to drive home the ninth run of the game.
In the seventh, Charleston tacked on five more runs for a 14-2 lead. Phillips was hit by a pitch and Butler followed with a Single. After an out, Heidt singled to drive in his third run of the game. With two out, two strikes and bases loaded, Brock Hunter threw two wild pitches to allow the 11th and 12th runs to cross. Martin followed with a two run double to provide the 14-2 final.
Cougar starter Drew Freie (4-4) was credited with the win. He allowed three hits and struck out three in 3.1 scoreless innings. Brady Arenson, getting his first career start, fell to 0-1, allowing five hits and six run over two innings.
Coastal Carolina will return to Big South action with a three-game series at Presbyterian College April 26-28.
