MYRTLE BEACH - Alex Buccilli's single up the middle with the bases loaded in the 14th inning lifted Coastal Carolina (21-12) to a 2-1 win over College of Charleston (18-14) Wednesday night at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.

Nick Oberg had a single to start the 14th. Ted Blackman then worked the count full before Cougar pitcher Jeremy Revan (1-1) walked the senior and hit freshman Tyler Chadwick to load the bases. Buccilli, who now has three game-winning RBI during CCU's season-best, six-game win streak, connected on a 1-1 pitch that got past the pitcher and made it into center field to end the contest that covered 4:05.

Coastal closer Ryan Connolly (2-3) pitched the final three innings, allowing one hit and one walk with five strikeouts. In all, eight CCU pitchers combined to strikeout 19 to set a school record. (The previous best was 16 set last season versus College of Charleston.) Tyler Poole worked the first three innings, fanning six and allowing one hit before leaving on a pitch count. Seth Lamando added three Ks in 1.1 innings and Patrick Corbett struck out three in three innings.

Coastal Carolina broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning. Zach Remillard drew a leadoff walk and moved beat the throw at second to second when Oberg reached on a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt. A Blackman sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third and Jacob May plated Remillard with an RBI ground out.

The Cougars tied the game in the top of the fourth, taking advantage of a two-out CCU error. With two out, Ben Boykin and Carl Wise had back-to-back singles. Coastal looked to get out of the inning unscathed when Lamando got Blake Butler to hit a ground ball to second, but an error extended the inning and allowed Boykin to score from second.

Both teams had chances late, the best coming in the bottom of the 11th when Coastal loaded the bases with two outs. However, after working the count full, Dre Watts got a strikeout to end the frame.

College of Charleston pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts. Jake Zokan had four in 3.1 innings, allowing one hit and one run. Watts contributed four Ks in 2.2 innings.

Coastal Carolina will hit the road for a three-game series at Winthrop this weekend. Game times are 6 pm Friday, 3 pm Saturday and 1 pm Sunday.
