#23 Coastal Carolina Drops Another 2-1 Decision at Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. - In game one of a Saturday doubleheader, Coastal Carolina dropped a second consecutive 2-1 decision to Pepperdine.
Coastal got on the scoreboard first. Daniel Bowman led off with a double to center. Zach Lopes laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Bowman to third and John Fidanza plated Bowman with an RBI ground out to second.
Pepperdine scored two in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 2-1, which proved to be the final outcome. Joe Sever broke up Birmingham's no-hitter with a lead off double down the right field line. Brian Humphries followed with a bunt single, putting runners on the corners. Sever knotted the game at 1-1, scoring on a wild pitch. Humphries, who moved to second on the wild pitch, stole third and scored on the play thanks to a throwing error.
Birmingham (2-2) was the tough-luck loser. He allowed just two hits, two runs (one earned) and three walks while striking out six in 5.2 innings. Bowman had two hits for the Chants.
Wave starter Matt Maurer (3-1) earned the win, scattering five hits and two walks while striking out eight, Ricky Villarreal retired both batter he faced in the ninth to record his third save of the season.
