Eleven Chanticleers Earn Trip to NCAA East Preliminary

CONWAY - A total of 11 Chanticleer student-athletes from the men's and women's track and field programs will represent Coastal Carolina University, in 13 events, at the 2017 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round to be held in Lexington, Ky., at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex, from May 25-27.

Twelve performers from each preliminary site advance to the NCAA Championships -- hosted for the fifth straight year as part of a nine-year run at Hayward Field, in Eugene, Ore., on June 7-10.

The women's team qualified four individuals, while the men's program will send seven individuals.

On the women's side, Aynslee van Graan will make her second consecutive appearance in the preliminary round competing in the 1500-meter run. She enters the meet as the 17th seed after running 4:19.58 in the War Eagle Classic, in Auburn, Ala. and just missing the CCU school record she currently owns.

Annie Bothma will compete in the 10,000-meter run after setting a new school record at the Sun Belt Championships, in Arlington, Texas, she enters at the 28th seed with her time of 34:12.04.

Hesmari Coetzee will make her NCAA East Preliminary debut in the 400-meter hurdles as the 34th seed after running a 59.25, at the Gamecock Invitational, in Columbia, S.C.

In the field events, Chloe White is the 38th seed in the javelin with her toss of 46.01 meters (150' 11") in the Sun Belt Championships in Arlington.

Four Chanticleers will be making a return trip to the preliminary round, Therius Styles will compete in the 100-meter dash as the 38th seed after running 10.37 at the War Eagle Classic, and the 200-meter dash as the 45th seed after running 21.03 at the Gamecock Invitational.

In the 400-meter dash, Braylon Wilkerson will be the 37th seed with his time of 47.03 from the Sun Belt Championships.

Kevondre' Hunt will run in the 110-meter hurdles as the 31st seed with his time of 14.05 at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Fla. The duo of Keishaun Limehouse and Dee Jennings will make their first appearance at the NCAA East Preliminary in the 110-meter hurdles. Limehouse will be the 17th seed after running a 13.95 and Jennings the 40th seed with 14.14 at the Tom Jones Memorial.

The 400-meter hurdles will have a trio of Chants vying for the top spot with Jerome Coaxum Jr. as the 18th seed with his time of 51.62 from the Tom Jones Memorial and Tre Stanley will be the 26th seed 51.93 from the Sun Belt Championships. Jennings, the first Chanticleer to compete in both hurdle events, is the 43rd seed with his time of 52.36 at the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville.

Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., will host the 2017 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships from June 7-10. The top-24 finishers in each event at the NCAA East and West Preliminary Rounds will advance to compete in the event in Eugene.
