Chanticleer Cross Country Finishes Eighth and Tenth
High Point, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's cross country team placed eighth, and the women placed in 10th, at the High Point VertCross Invitational in High Point, Friday afternoon.
The top women's individual finisher was Hannah Steelman with 21:02.54, in the 6k race, and Chanticleer Nadeel Wildschutt was the top men's finisher with his time of 24:22.51, in the 8k event.
Men's | 8th of 17 -- 200 Points
Wildschutt paced the field with a first-place finish, followed by Hutson Baumann in 10th with his time of 25:07.24.
Andrew Southard was the next Chant to cross the finish line in 58th with 26:44.21, with Dough Mullen finishing in 80th in a time of 27:32.83 and Andrew Avery closed out the scoring for CCU with 27:44.77 for a finish of 88th.
Furman and East Tennessee State finished first and second with 56 and 70 points respectively to lead the way in the men's events. Appalachian State with 108 points, Charleston Southern with 114, and Marshall with 168 closed out the top five.
Women's | 10th of 16 -- 244 Points
In 74th was Lexi Carpenter with a time of 24:39.74, 99th Giovanna Leone in 25:32.91 and Caroline Brown in 113th with 26:26.82, to close out the scoring. Ashlyn Ritter was the final Chant to cross the line in 122nd with 27:31.29.
High Point with 62, Appalachian State scoring 68, East Tennessee State with 73, Furman and Wofford were the top five teams in the women's event.
The Chanticleers will next compete in the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Louisville, Ky., on Oct. 14.
