Chanticleers Win Cross Country CCU Invitational
CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's and women's cross country teams both finished first at the Fleet Feet CCU Invitational, while taking the top six individual spots on both sides as well.
The elementary, middle and high school events were canceled due to inclement weather and the college events were shortened to a 3k instead of 5k.
Men's 3k | 1st of 3 -- 15 Points
The men's team finished in the top six places, with reigning Sun Belt Athlete of the Week Nadeel Wildschutt finishing first with his time of 7:57.9. Hutson Baumann was second with 8:05.7. Michael Pieterse, Andrew Avery and Andrew Southard followed in third, fourth and fifth, respectively, even though they crossed the line with the same time (8:30.6) to pace the Chants.
Women's 3k | 1st of 3 -- 15 Points
The women's race also saw the first six collegians crossing the finish line be Chanticleers. The Sun Belts women's Athlete of the Week, Lisha van Onselen paced Coastal with a first-place finish and time of 9:33.0. Kayla Tracy was third overall with a time of 10:03.9, followed by Giovanna Leone (10:20.2), Alexis Carpenter (10:31.8) and Daisy Hooper (10:51.6) to lead the Chanticleers.
Coastal Carolina will return to action Saturday, Sept. 30, in Spartanburg, S.C. at the USC Upstate Invitational.
