Chanticleer Cross Country Opens 2017 at Gamecock Invitational
Columbia, S.C - Coastal Carolina men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2017 season at the Gamecock Invitational and finished in second and third, respectively, Saturday morning.
The men's team scored 73 points and finished second of 10 teams, while the women's team accumulated 97 points and placed third of 12 teams. Both teams competed in 5k events.
"This was a solid performance by both the men's and women's teams for their first meet of the year," stated assistant men's and women's cross country/track & field coach Zola Pieterse.
CCU MEN -- 73 points -- 2nd of 10
Hutson Baumann was the first scorer, second overall, to cross the finish line with a time 15:43.4, with Michael Pieterse crossing in 11th (13th overall) in 16:41.7. Andrew Avery placed 13th (15th overall) with a time of 16:48.2 and the final Chant runner in the top 15.
Doug Mullin placed 21st (17:08.3, 23rd overall) and Elijah Lawson was 27th (17:39.9, 30th overall) to round out the men's contingent.

Coastal Carolina return to Conway on Friday, Sept. 8 at 6:00 p.m., to host the CCU Invitational at The Hackler Course.
