Chanticleers Wrap-up Day One of NCAA East Preliminary
Lexington, Ky. - The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers was well represented on day one of the NCAA East Region Preliminaries in Lexington, on Thursday (May 25). Two Chants advance to the quarter-finals in their events and one punches a ticket to the NCAA Finals in Eugene, Ore.
Annie Bothma moved to the next round by virtue of her record setting victory in the 10,000-meter run. Bothma completed the event in 33:37.91 setting a new Coastal Carolina school and UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex. The last distance runner to compete in the NCAA Finals for CCU was Terah Kipchiris, in 2005, in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Hesmari Coetzee placed 42nd in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.67.
Aynslee van Graan competed in the 1500-meter run, placing 41st with a time of 4:35.17.
In the women's field events, Chloe White threw 44.45m (145' 10") in the javelin to place 24th overall.
In the men's track, Jerome Coaxum Jr. and Dee Jennings will compete in the quarter-finals of the 400-meter hurdles after running in the prelims. Coaxum placed 10th in the prelims running 52.13 finishing second in the fourth heat. Jennings finished third in the fourth heat with 52.31 to advance to the quarters. Tre Stanley finished 30th overall with his time of 53.02.
Braylon Wilkerson ran a 47.99 in the 400-meter run to place 32nd.
Friday's (May 26) action will include Therius Styles seeking to advance in the 200-meter dash, Kevondre' Hunt, Keishaun Limehouse and Jennings in the 110-meter hurdles, and the quarter-finals of the 400-meter hurdles.
