Coastal Carolina Close Out Day Two of Sun Belt Championships
Arlington, Texas - The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track and field teams closed out day two of the Sun Belt Championships in Arlington, Saturday.
WOMEN: 7th of 12 -- 21 points
The women's team did not collect any points but set themselves up in advantageous position by having several of the track participants qualify for the finals of their events on Sunday.
Hesmari Coetzee highlighted the qualifying by getting the top time in the 400m hurdles with 59.92, Olivia Coopwood followed with the eighth fastest time with 1:03.14 and both will compete in the finals on Sunday.
Carina Frey qualified with the eighth best time in the 200m dash with her time of 24.53, improving on her seeding time.
In the 800m run, Alyssa LeClaire had the sixth fastest time of 2:13.18 to qualify for Sunday finals
MEN: 6th of 10 -- 25 points
The men's team was able to collect points and set themselves up with qualifying for the finals of their events.
In the field events, Marquez Moore placed first in the long jump with his distance of 7.38m (24' 2.5"), improving his season's best leap. Deandre Baker scored a third-place finish with his leap of 7.33m (24' 0.75") to improve on his best jump this season.
Zach Bolton finished seventh in the shot put with his throw of 16.04m (52' 7.5") to close out the scoring for the Chanticleers.
In the track events, a trio of Chants qualified in the 110m hurdles event led by Dee Jennings (second fastest; 14.24), Keishaun Limehouse (fifth fastest; 14.39) and Kevondre Hunt (eighth fastest; 14.52).
Therius Styles highlighted the day by qualifying for the 100m dash (fourth fastest; 10.62) and the 200m dash (third fastest; 21.24).
Braylon Wilkerson qualified second in the 400m dash with his time of 47.36.
In the 400m hurdles, Tre Stanley had the second fastest time with 52.35 and Jerome Coaxum, Jr. followed with the third fastest time of 52.99 to move to the finals on Sunday.
Coastal Carolina will wrap up the final day of the Sun Belt Championships on Sunday and earn their first title.
