Chanticleers Compete in Liberty Kick-off
Lynchburg, Va. - Coastal Carolina women's indoor track and field sophomore Erica Evans set a CCU school record in the indoor pentathlon scoring 3,529 points and finished second in the multi-event competition in the first day of the Liberty Kick-off at former Big South opponent Liberty.
Evans placed in the no worse than fourth in the five events; 800m, 60m hurdles, high jump, long jump and shot put that make up the pentathlon. In the 800m Evans placed first with 2:23.87 scoring 772 points, fourth in the 60m hurdles with 9.18 to score 873 points, third in the high jump with 1.61m (5' 3.25") scoring 747 points, tied for third scoring 637 points in the long jump with 5.28m (17' 4"), and with a distance 9.55m (31' 4") to score 500 points in the shot put. Evans had personal bests in the 800m, 60m hurdles, high jump and shot put.
In the 5000m run, Rachel Byrd opened her indoor season and finished seventh with her time of 18:38.72.
Alexis Ross and Samantha Layko placed 18th and 23rd respectively in the weight throw with their distances of 14.93m (48' 11.75"), a personal best in a new event, for Ross and 14.27m (46' 10") for Layko.
