Bothma Wins 5000m to Wrap Up Hokie Invitational: Day 2
BLACKSBURG, VA. - eshman Annie Bothma crossed the finish line by a landslide to take home a first place finish in the women's 5000 meter to wrap up the Hokie Invitational on Saturday.
Bothma finished with a time 16:25.25 -- breaking the CCU Indoor record that was set by Letitia Saayman (16:52.74) in 2015. Bothma's run currently ranks 12th overall in the NCAA.
In the field, senior pole vaulter Emma Kroger had her best mark of the day at 3.72m (12-2 ½) to finish in seventh place in the women's seeded pole vault. A mark of 5.69m (18-8) gave Kelsey Briggs a third place finished in the women's long jump to close out the field events for CCU.
Tiffany Harris clocked in at 24.91 in the 200 meter dash -- just shy of the CCU Indoor record (23.40). Also for the Chants, Carina Frey finished with a time of 25.47 and Karissa Lunn crossed at 26.04.
To end the day, the 4x400m relay team composed of Harris, Golden Kumi-Darfor, Olivia Coopwood and Boatwright clocked in at 4:01.38.
Coastal will return to action Feb 3-4 at the Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. at the JDL Fast Track.
