Chanticleers Open the Indoor Track and Field Season at East Tennessee State
The Coastal Carolina women’s indoor track and field team opened their season in Johnson City at the ETSU Invitational.
The field events started with the weight throw. Samantha Layko placed 10th with her distance of 14.56 meters (47’ 9.25”), Layko was followed by freshman Alexis Ross. Ross, competing in her first meet as a Chanticleer, threw 12.44 meters (40’ 9.75”) for 26th.
Joya Blackwell placed 15th in the high jump completing the height of 1.50 meters (4’ 11”) in her first meet at Coastal.
The 60m hurdles started the running events, Anacia Hines qualified with the third fastest time of 9.12 to win her heat.
Tiffany Harris, running in the 400m, won her heat to qualify with the second fastest time of 58.09.
The 60m dash had Carina Frey qualify seventh after winning her heat with a time of 7.82 and just behind sixth who had 7.819. Karissa Lunn, Kelsey Briggs, and Jonnay Anthony just missed qualifying with times of 7.92, 7.94 and 7.95 respectively.
Frey with 25.92 and Anthony with 26.02 just missed qualifying for the finals of the 200m.
The finals will compete on Saturday for the 60m, 200m, 400m, and 60m hurdles.
