Mike Embry, a two sport athlete at Eastern Illinois University (football and track and field), was named Coastal Carolina assistant track and field coach in the summer of 2017. Embry will focus on the jumps for the Chanticleer men's and women's track and field programs.
Embry spent the past three years at his alma mater coaching jumps and sprinters as an assistant. He primarily coached the horizontal jumps and sprinters.
In 2017, Embry advanced one of his athletes to the NCAA West Regional as Angelica Anyaogu competed in the long jump.
Under his instruction in 2016, he guided Brion Portis and Kendall Williams to the NCAA West Regional in the long and triple jumps. Both Portis and Williams were ranked in the top 100 nationally in their perspective event.
Embry is a former EIU track and field and football athlete. He was a standout on the track and field team. He finished his EIU career ranked in the top 10 in EIU history in the 60m hurdles, and competed in the long jump and the 4x100 relay.
