CONWAY - Letitia Saayman of the Coastal Carolina women’s cross country team has been named the Big South Choice Hotels Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced today. It is the third Runner of the Week honor that Saayman has earned this season.

The sophomore from Pretoria, South Africa ran a personal-record time of 21:27 in the women’s Gold 6k at the Paul Short Run. Saayman placed 51st overall in a field of 406 runners that included six of the nation’s top 30 teams.

Saayman has paced the Chants in each of the three meets that she has competed in this season. She was also named the Big South’s Runner of the Week after finishing first overall at the 5k Carolina Challenge on Aug. 30, and at the Big South Preview on Sept. 21.

Additionally, the Chanticleer women have had a Runner of the Week named after each of the four meets they have participated in. The Chants’ fourth Runner of the Week honor this season was awarded to Kyla van Graan after the freshman was the top individual finisher at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Sept. 13.

The Chanticleer men’s and women’s cross country teams will return to action on Friday, Oct. 18 when they travel to Boone, N.C. to compete in the Blue Ridge Mountain Open.
