CONWAY - Letitia Saayman of the Coastal Carolina women’s cross country team has been named the Big South Choice Hotels Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced today. It is the second time this season that Saayman has earned this honor.

The Pretoria, South Africa, native ran a 5k time of 18:18 at the Buena Vista Golf Links course last Saturday, setting a new course record and finishing first in the Big South Preview/VMI Invitational. Her time was 17 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. The Chanticleer women would go on to take the team title, beating Liberty 43-53.

Saayman’s first Runner of the Week award this season came after a first-place finish in the Carolina Challenge where she ran a 5k personal best of 18:06.

This is also the third Runner of the Week honor for the Chanticleer women this season.

The Chanticleers will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 5 when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to compete in the Paul Short Run.
