CONWAY - Kyla van Graan of the Coastal Carolina women’s cross country team has been named the Big South Conference's Choice Hotels Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced today.

Van Graan, a freshman from Pretoria, South Africa, ran a 5k personal best time of 17:55.14 to take first place at the 9th Annual Coastal Carolina Invitational at the Hackler Golf Course last Friday. The Chanticleer men and women both won the meet, marking the second consecutive year that Coastal has claimed both team titles at the CCU Invitational.

The conference’s Runner of the Week award is the first for van Graan, who has participated in only two meets as a freshman Chanticleer. In her first outing at the Carolina Challenge on Aug. 30, van Graan placed third overall with a 5k time of 18:34.93.

On the men’s side, junior Joseph Keitt received honorable mention for the second time this season after winning the men’s 5k at the CCU Invitational with a time of 15:29.

The Coastal men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Buena Vista, Va., on Saturday, Sept. 21 to compete in the Big South Preview.
