Charlotte, N.C. - Letitia Saayman of the Coastal Carolina women's cross country team has been named the Big South Choice Hotels Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced today.

Saayman, a sophomore from Pretoria, South Africa, ran a 5k personal-best time of 18:06.28 to take first place at the Carolina Challenge hosted by the University of South Carolina last Friday. The Chants would go on to win the meet, edging South Carolina by a score of 39-41.

The conference's Runner of the Week honor is the first for Saayman, who received Big South Freshman of the Year and all-conference team honors in 2012. In addition, the sophomore runner was named to the 2012-13 Big South Presidential Honor Roll.

The Chanticleer cross country teams return to action on Friday, Sept. 13 when they host the annual Coastal Carolina Invitational at the Hackler Golf Course. The women's 5k will begin at 6 p.m. with the men's 5k to follow.
