When Pennsville Memorial High School graduate Tyler Cummings -- a three-time Salem County Runner of the Year -- was a senior with the Eagles last year, he set a personal record for the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:25.45 at the Tri-County Conference Championships.
On March 21 as a Division I Coastal Carolina University freshman, Cummings placed sixth at the Weems Baskin Invitational at the University of South Carolina with a new collegiate-best 4:03.54 in the 1,500.
He also ran 2:00.67 in the 800, which is another PR.
"It was kind of a little breakout race I guess," Cummings said of his performance in the 1,500. "Before I ran that I had a (4:07.37, which roughly translates into a 4:24 in the 1,600). My 4:03 at Weems Baskin would have been about a 4:19 in the 1,600.
