Boone, N.C. - Jessica Dennison and Evan Niciphor once again led the Coastal Carolina women's and men's cross country teams as the women placed sixth of 14 teams and the men placed 10th of 16 teams at the Blue Ridge Mountain Open hosted by Appalachian State.

Coming off a 6K personal best at the Charlotte Invitational two weeks ago, Jess Dennison crossed the line first for the Chants with a personal best 5K time of 18:41 to finish 18th of 121 runners in the women's race. It was the second time this year that Dennison has led the Chants.

Niciphor, also returning to action after a personal best 8K time at the Charlotte Invitational, paced the men's team today with a time of 25:33. Niciphor crossed 47th out of 146 total runners in the men's 8K to lead the Chants for the second consecutive meet, and the third time this season.

Contributing heavily for the women was Emily Marchini, who finished only 1.2 seconds behind Dennison to finish second for the Chants, 19th overall. It was the third time this season that Dennison and Marchini finished in the top two for the Chants, and second time they crossed consecutively overall.

Freshman Letitia Saayman continued her impressive freshman campaign as she finished third for the Chants, 28th overall in 18:55. Shelby Nicosia crossed right behind Saayman in 18:58, and Stephanie Taylor followed in 19:25. Rounding out Coastal's runners were Jackie Brengel (19:56) and LaChelsie Thomas (21:55).

On the men's side sophomore Joseph Keitt finished second in 25:51 to place 56th overall. Like Dennison and Marchini for the women's team, it was the third time this season that Niciphor and Keitt finished in the top two for the Chants.

Senior Spencer Lange turned in a 27:22 8K time to finish in third for the Chants. Following Lange was junior Cameron Wells (27:27), sophomore Tyler Cummings (27:50), junior Ryan Beckley (27:53) and freshman Graham Larson (28:22).

In the men's 8K, Wake Forest, George Mason and East Tennessee St. finished first, second and third respectively. George Mason's Robert Reynolds took the 8K individual title with a time of 24:31.

Wake Forest also captured the team title in the women's 5K followed by Belmont in second and Big South rival High Point in third. Wake Forest's Nicole Irving had the best 5K time with 17:28.

The men's and women's cross country teams' next appearance will be Saturday Oct. 27 for the Big South Championship at Winthrop Lake in Rock Hill, S.C. At the Chant's previous meet in Rock Hill on Sept. 15, Joseph Keitt finished first for the men's team with an 8K personal best time of 25:42; Marchini finished first for the Chants with a 5K time of 18:50.
