Coastal Track Athletes Achieve Top 10 National Rankings

CONWAY - With their performances at Saturday's Orange & Purple Winter Classic at Clemson, several members of the Coastal Carolina women's indoor track & field team are among the top 10 in this season's initial national rankings.

The Chanticleers' 4x400 relay team of senior Erica Peake, freshman Teka Simpson, sophomore Qwontajah Thompson and freshman Jessica Gelibert is ranked second with a flat-track converted time of 3:46.10. The quartet clocked 3:49.10 in the meet, finishing as the runner-up to host Clemson's `A' squad, which posted the fastest time in the nation.

Peake is ranked in the top five of two individual events after notching a pair of top-three finishes. Her winning 60-meter dash time of 7.52 set a new personal best and ranks fifth in the country. She also ranks third in the 300 meters with a time of 38.89.

Gelibert won the 500 meters in her first collegiate meet, posting a time of 1:15.62, which is third fastest in the nation. She also ranks ninth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.63.

The team returns to action Jan. 18 and 19 at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Members of Coastal's men's team will also compete at the meet in Blacksburg, Va.
