CONWAY - Coastal Carolina track & field’s rising sophomore Jessica Gelibert is set to compete at the 2013 Pan American Junior Athletics Championship in Medellin, Columbia this weekend for Team Haiti. Gelibert holds dual citizenship in both the United States and Haiti.

Gelibert will compete in the 400 meter hurdles on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. with the finals scheduled for Sunday night at 6 p.m. She enters the race as the fourth ranked junior in the world in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.29 and is just .18 away from the top ranked time.

Three of the top four juniors in the world will be competing at the event with Gelibert at number four, Jade Miller of Team USA at number two and Autumne Franklin of Team USA at number one.

Gelibert came up just shy of qualifying for Team USA as she finished third at the USATF Junior Championships this past June behind Franklin and Miller. Haiti extended an invitation for Gelibert to compete for her parents’ native country which gave her a second opportunity to compete against the top two juniors in the world.

The Association of Pan American Athletics has 44 member countries including the United States and Haiti. Gelibert will be competing against the top juniors from North, Central and South America.
