MOSCOW - Coastal Carolina alumna Amber Campbell finished ahead of 14 competitors from around the world at the 14th annual IAAF World Championships. Campbell came up just one spot shy of qualifying for the final round with her 13th-place finish.
Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland finished the qualifying round as the top competitor with a throw of 76.18 meters while Campbell registered a throw of 69.86 meters. Fellow American Jeneva McCall edged out Campbell by 0.61 meters for the final qualifying spot.
Campbell finished eighth in Group "B" and registered her best throw of the day on her very first attempt.
This was Campbell's fourth time at the World Championships. She finished eighth in Group "A" in 2011 with a throw of 71.06 meters, 11th overall in 2009 with a throw of 70.08 meters and ninth in Group "B" in 2005 with a throw of 65.48 meters.
