CHARLOTTE - Coastal Carolina sophomore Jessica Gelibert has been named the 2014 Big South Women’s Runner of the Year as voted by the league's head coaches.

Gelibert is the sixth Chanticleer to garner the yearly honor. She joins Angela Murphy (1997), Jolene Williams (1998, 1999), Amber Campbell (2001, 2003, 2004), Chasity Johnson (2005) and Erica Peake (2013) as Chants to earn the league's top track & field honor.

Gelibert, a native of Bay Shore, N.Y., earned five All-Conference honors during the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. During the 2013-14 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championship, she led the 4x400m relay team to a first place finish, finished second in the 60m hurdle event with a time of 8.40 and earned a third place finish in the 400m event as she clocked in at 55.61. At the 2014 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championship, Gelibert claimed the gold medal in the 400m hurdles. She also finished third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.00. She narrowly missed qualifying for the 2014 NCAA Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., as she was edged by .004 at the NCAA East preliminary round competition in the 400m hurdles. She currently owns the Big South 400m hurdles record with a time of 56.87.  She is the only Big South student-athlete to post a time of under 58 seconds in the event.

Gelibert set personal bests in the 60m hurdles (8.34), 400m (55.39) and 500m (1:12.66) during indoor and set a personal best in the 400m hurdles (56.87) during outdoor. Her time in the 400m hurdles ranked 12th in the NCAA following the 2014 season. Her times in the 500m and 400m hurdles are also Big South records.
