CONWAY - For the first time since 2012, the Coastal Carolina University men's track & field team will send an individual to the NCAA Championships. Junior Reggie Nelson, who finished in the top-12 at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the high jump, will head to Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., for the 2014 NCAA Championships.
Nelson is seeded t-19th after a qualifying height of 2.14m (7-00.25) in the preliminary round. The top-seeded jumpers are Trey McRae of Charlotte, Torian Ware of Clemson, Justin Fondren of Alabama, DJ Smith of Auburn, Avion Jones of East Carolina, Maalik Reynolds of Penn and Montez Blair of Cornell who all registered a height of 2.17m (7-01.50) at the preliminary round.
The high jump is scheduled to begin at 6:20 p.m. (EST) on Friday, June 13. Nelson will be the eighth jumper in the jump order. He jumps behind Torian Ware of Clemson and just ahead of Kyle Landon of Southern Illinois.
Nelson is one of five male student-athletes from the Big South Conference to qualify for the NCAA Championships. He will be joined in Eugene by Vincent Wyatt (110m hurdles) of Radford, Jacob Smith (3000m steeplechase) of High Point, Braxton Drummond (long jump) of Charleston Southern and Alex Young (hammer throw) of Gardner-Webb.
