CCU's Two Relays Named Honorable Mention All-America

NEW ORLEANS - The Coastal Carolina women’s track & field team’s 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams were named Honorable Mention All-America by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Senior Erica Peake, sophomore Symphony Thompson, freshman Teka Simpson and sophomore Qwontajah Thompson made up the 4x100 squad and will all be considered Honorable Mention All-Americans. Freshman Jessica Gelibert, Q. Thompson, Simpson and Peake comprised the 4x400 squad. Q. Thompson, Simpson and Peake received two Honorable Mention All-American nods due to their participation in both events.
Peake was named a Second Team All-American during the Indoor Championships due to her performance in the 200 meters. It is the first All-American honors for the other four Chanticleers.
The 4x100 squad broke the Coastal Carolina record and finished with the second-fastest time in Big South history at the NCAA East Preliminary Round with a time of 44.48 this season while the 4x400 team made headlines by finishing first at the historic Penn Relays in the College Final earlier this season. The squad ran a then school record time of 3:34.23. The four were not satisfied with just a Penn Relays Wagon Wheel as they went out and beat their own school record at the NCAA East Preliminary Round by finishing fifth with a time of 3:34.09. The time also bests the previous Big South Conference record by over six seconds.
