CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The men's and women's 4x400 relay teams were named the Big South Conference Track Athletes of the Week after their impressive performances at the Penn Relays. DeAndra Lipscomb, Corey Hackett-Greene, Matthew Lights and Deion Wellington of the men's team were honored and Jessica Gelibert, Qwontajah Thompson, Teka Simpson and Erica Peake of the women's team took home the honor.

The Coastal Carolina men's quartet shattered the CCU school record in the 4x400 with a time of 3:09.98 to place 13th out of 69 teams in the event at the Penn Relays. The squad advanced to the college finals where they turned in a time of 3:10.98 to finish 5th. Their time currently ranks No. 5 all-time in Big South history and is one of only three teams in league history to break the 3:10 barrier. The performance currently ranks No. 18 in the NCAA East Region.

"Associate Head Coach Timothy Vaught and Assistant Coach Christopher Courson have done an outstanding job with the relay teams this year," said Men's Head Track and Field Coach Jeff Jacobs. "This recognition is well deserved after the record breaking performances last weekend at the Penn Relays."

The Chanticleer women's squad won the College Division of the 4x400 with a Big South-record time of 3:34.23 in a highly competitive field at the Penn Relays. The field included traditional powers Mississippi State, Kentucky and South Carolina. The time ranks as the sixth-best in the NCAA East Region.

The track and field team returns to action Friday and Saturday as it competes at the Bob Pollock Invitational in Clemson, S.C.
