NEW ORLEANS - The Coastal Carolina women's track and field team is among the top 10 teams in the Southeast Region according to the most recent USTFCCCA Region Rankings. The women are ranked ninth in the region just ahead of Louisville, Liberty, East Carolina, Wake Forest, Hampton and Western Kentucky.

The women also have seven athletes ranked in the top-48 in the East Region in seven different events. Leading the way is senior Erica Peake who is currently ranked fourth in the region in the 100 meters with a time of 11.30 that she ran at the Big South Conference Championships. The top-48 in each event move on to the NCAA Preliminary Round held in Greensboro, N.C. May 23-25. Peake also ranks sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.09 run at the BSC Championships.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team is currently ranked 14th with a time of 3:38.24 run at the Tiger Track Classic and the top-24 teams move on to NCAA competition. The women's 4x100 meter relay team is currently ranked 17th with a time of 45.24 run at the UNF Invitational.

The men's team has six student-athletes ranked in the top-48 in the East Region in five different events. Leading the way is sophomore Joseph Wilson who is ranked 12th in the 100 meters with a time of 10.31 ran at the BSC Championships.  

Freshman Jessica Gelibert on the women's side is ranked fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a 57.86 time ran at the BSC Championships. Her teammate Christina Davis is ranked 38th in the 400 meter hurdles as well with a time of 1:00.36 ran at the Tiger Track Classic. Christina and her sister Ashley Davis are ranked 46th and 43rd, respectively in the 100 meter hurdles. A. Davis posted a time of 13.77 at the Chanticleer Classic while C. Davis ran a 13.78 at the BSC Championships.

Freshman Amirah Al-Bayyinah is ranked 37th in the triple jump with a distance of 12.47 meters achieved at the BSC Championships. Sophomore Letitia Saayman is ranked 48th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 35:23.37 which she achieved at the Raleigh Relays while junior Shelby Nicosia is ranked 48th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase after posting a time of 10:40.42 at the BSC Championships.   

Sophomore Jackson Corcoran is ranked 14th in the javelin with a toss of 68.17 meters which he achieved at the Shamrock Invitational. His teammate Jordan Entwistle is ranked 43rd in the javelin after posting a 62.89 meter toss at the BSC Championships.  Sophomore Reggie Nelson is ranked 38th in the high jump with a height of 2.09 meters which he achieved at the BSC Championships. Junior Russel Kanner is ranked 41st in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 52.81 which he ran at the Tiger Track Classic. The final Chant ranked in the top-48 is junior JaDarrell Barnette who is sitting in 46th in the triple jump with a distance of 14.97 meters at the Shamrock Invitational.

The men's and women's teams will be back in action this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 25-27 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. A few CCU throwers will also be in action at the Highlander Invitational hosted by Radford April 26-27.
