Gelibert and Roach Named Big South Track & Field Athletes of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Freshmen Jessica Gelibert and Jordan Roach of the Coastal Carolina men’s and women’s track and field teams were named the Big South Conference Track & Field Athletes of the Week. Gelibert was named the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week while Roach was named the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.

This is Gelibert’s second and CCU’s third Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award this season. This marks Roach’s first and CCU’s second Men’s Field Athlete of the Week award this season.

Gelibert set the Big South record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.25 at the Chanticleer Classic last weekend. She finished first overall in the event. She also placed second in the 100- meter hurdles with a time of 13.98.

Roach won the men's discus, placed third in the javelin and fifth in the hammer at the Chanticleer Classic this past weekend. Roach's throw of 50.25 meters (164-10) in the discus was a CCU season-best and is currently ranked No. 3 in the Big South this season.

The track and field team returns to action today, tomorrow and Saturday as it competes in the Big South Conference Championships in Lynchburg, Va.
