Styles Named Big South Athlete of the Week
CONWAY - Coastal Carolina sophomore Therius Styles has been named the Big South Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Styles, a sprints star, is the third Chanticleer to earn the weekly track award in the 2016 outdoor season. Coastal senior Desmond Wallace and redshirt sophomore Aynslee van Graan were named Big South Conference athletes of the week earlier this year.
Last weekend at the East Carolina University Bill Carson Invitational, Styles scored a first-place finish in the men’s 100-meter dash, setting a new personal best with a mark of 10.47.
His time is best in the Big South Conference this season.
Styles also notched a first-place finish (10.74) this season in the men’s seeded 100-meter dash at the Coach O Coastal Carolina Invitational.
In 2015, Styles earned All-Big South honors after running the final leg of the Big South Championship 4x100 relay (40.26 seconds) and finishing third in the 100m dash (10.59 seconds).
Additionally, he placed 38th last year in the 200m dash at the NCAA East Preliminary Round after posting a time of 21.60 seconds, and was a member of the 4x100 relay that finished 20th at the NCAA East Preliminary Round.
Styles and the Chanticleers are back in action this Friday at the Big South Challenge Cup in High Point, N.C.
