CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Jessica Gelibert and Reggie Nelson of the Coastal Carolina University track & field team have been named the Big South Women’s Track Athlete of the Week and Big South Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, for their performances at the Tiger Track Classic last week, the league announced today. This marks the second time this season that Gelibert and Nelson have been honored during the same week. The pair was named the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week and Men’s Field Athlete of the Week on March 27 as well.
Gelibert, a sophomore from Bay Shore, N.Y., bettered her Big South record in the 400 meter hurdles as she crossed the line in 57.07 to finish second overall at the Tiger Track Classic. She is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation in the event. Gelibert also set a personal-best in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.81. Her time is currently ranked No. 2 in the Big South Conference as she placed 10th overall in the race.
Nelson, a redshirt-junior from Dillon, S.C., cleared a season-best 2.12m (6-11.50) to place third in the high jump at the Tiger Track Classic. He also placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 7.09m (23-03.25). Nelson ranks No. 1 in the Big South in the high jump and is No. 11 in the NCAA East Region in the event.
Coastal Carolina will host the Chanticleer Classic this Saturday, April 12, on campus at the CCU Track and Field Complex. CCU’s 17 seniors will be honored at noon prior to the running events.
