NEW ORLEANS - The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track and field teams are both among the top 15 teams in the Southeast Region according to the most recent USTFCCCA Region Rankings. The women are ranked eighth in the region just ahead of Virginia, Charlotte, Western Carolina, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Liberty and Appalachian State. The men come in at 13th just ahead of N.C. State and Wake Forest. The women are the top-ranked team in the Big South while the men are the second-ranked Big South team behind seventh-ranked Liberty.

The two teams also have 16 athletes ranked in the top-48 in the East Region in 17 different events. Leading the way is senior Erica Peake who is currently ranked first in the region in the 200 meters with a time of 23.35 that she ran at the UNF Invitational. The top-48 in each event advance to the NCAA Preliminary Round held in Greensboro, N.C., May 23-25. Peake also ranks ninth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.58 at the UNF Invitational.

The women's 4x100 meter relay team is currently ranked eighth with a time of 45.24 at the UNF Invitational; the top-24 relay teams also advance to the NCAA Preliminary Round. The women have two teams ranked in the 4x400 meter relay including one in 15th with a time of 3:41.33 at the Shamrock Invitational and 18th with a time of 3:42.10 at the UNF Invitational.

On the men's side it is junior Jackson Corcoran leading the way in javelin as he is ranked eighth with a throw of 68.17 meters at the Shamrock Invitational. Sophomore Joseph Wilson is ranked 13th in the 200 meters with a time of 21.29 at the UNF Invitational while his 10.62 100 meters ran at the Shamrock ranks him 46th overall.

Freshman Jessica Gelibert on the women's side is ranked 14th in the 400 meter hurdles with a 1:00.05 time at the CCU Invitational. She also ranks 37th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.92 at the UNF Invitational. Her teammate Ashley Davis is ranked 38th in the 100 meter hurdles as well with a time of 13.93 at the CCU Invitational. Sophomore Qwontajah Thompson is ranked 21st in the 400 meters with a time of 54.88 she ran at the Shamrock. Sophomore Letitia Saayman is ranked 22nd in the 10,000 meters with a time of 35:23.37 at the Raleigh Relays.

Junior JaDarrell Barnette is currently ranked 26th in the triple jump with a distance of 14.97 meters which he jumped at the Shamrock. Freshman Matthew Lights is ranked 30th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.33 at the CCU Invitational while junior Russel Kanner is ranked 38th with a time of 53.57 at the UNF Invitational. Sophomore Joseph Keitt sits in 30th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:18.93 at the Raleigh Relays.

Freshman Desmond Wallace is ranked 34th in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.29 at the UNF Invitational while freshman Wesley Edwards and sophomore Reggie Nelson are tied at 37th in the high jump with a height of 2.05 meters. Edwards achieved his jump at the CCU Invitational while Nelson registered his at the UNF Invitational. Freshman Jordan Entwistle is also ranked 37th in the javelin with a toss of 61.17 meters achieved at the Shamrock. The final Chant ranked in the top-48 is sophomore DeAndra Lipscomb who is ranked 46th in the 400 meters with a time of 48.30 at the UNF Invitational.

The men's and women's teams will be back in action this Friday and Saturday, April 5-6 at the Tiger Track Classic hosted by Auburn University,
